Why new beginnings ask for compassion

As 2017 is drawing to a close, we’re all rushing in with aspiring New Year’s resolutions.

Drafting lists, planning trips, and focusing on ambitious spiritual outcomes are positively well-favoured. After all, any good coach will always come back to assessing progress. 😉

Yet, there’s something about this way of approaching transformation that simply doesn’t work heart and soul. And you know it.

But have you ever wondere… d why?

Simply put it, goals won’t work unless you do.

Goals and New Year’s resolutions won’t work if they are not completely and honestly attuned to yourself.

You can’t hope for meeting your soul mate, if you are still, one way or another, stuck in past relationships or ongoing dramas.

Likewise, you can’t simply expect to turn into a blossoming entrepreneur, if you still struggle to find your passion.

That’s why, before jumping into high standard new beginnings and ambitious New Year’s resolutions you should always make sure you have secured for yourself the most healthy and peaceful closures. And that requires consistent and genuine compassion.

New beginnings ask for peaceful endings.

To be able to jumpstart any aspect of your life, you have to take care of what and how you leave behind.

Doubt, fear, resentment, anger, jealousy are hitchhikers you don’t want as copilot cabbie. All they will carry out is smart, but wicked sabotage.

They will keep on whispering in your year, time and time again, that you’re not good enough, strong enough, smart enough, beautiful enough; that you don’t deserve the best out there or that you should and must always align yourself to foreign norms.

Any cherished goal will thus be knocked off by a faint whisper in your ear.

But you always have, by your side, the most devoted ally — compassion.

And the means to activating it are in your possession fully.

How can you make compassion your everyday faithful companion?

Start each and every morning with a compassion mantra. This one is a very strong and beautiful option you can go for.

Also, you can simply give thanks to Mother Earth for her nurturing and to Father Sun for the warmth he’s sending down on you.

Or you can pray for your own beating heart — as simple as that.

Next, over the rest of the day, every single time doubt, fear, resentment, anger, jealousy or any other mean emotion insinuates itself into your mind, just be aware.

Being aware is the foundation for change.

Once you become mindful, summon empathy and kindness; focus on what you have in common with other people, in terms of both suffering and joy; practice random acts of kindness; and last but not least, forgive yourself.

Now let me tell you a secret.

If you really want some meaningful New Year’s resolutions, start with this — forgive yourself.
